Impact of Omicron, National Logistics Performance is still ‘On The Right Track’

Business people believe that the performance of the national logistics sector is still running normally and has not been significantly affected even though the daily Covid-19 cases in Indonesia have increased again due to the Omicron variant.

“I need to emphasize, if you look at the performance of the national logistics sector to date, the facts have not had an impact. In fact, you could say there is no indication of a decrease in activity. Everything is running normally, still on the right track,” said Yukki Nugrahawan Hanafi, DPP Chairman of the Indonesian Logistics and Forwarders Association (ALFI), on Wednesday (2/2/2022).

For this reason, Yukki added, ALFI continues to coordinate intensively with various related parties and agencies including the Ministry of Health in the hope that recovery can be carried out soon after the peak of the third wave of the pandemic which is predicted at the end of February to March, so that conditions can return to normal soon.

All parties, including business actors, he added, hoped that the effects of this third wave of pandemic would not happen again as in 2020. Moreover, entering the beginning of 2022 all industrial activities have run normally.

“However, in fact, logistics activities at ports and airports are also busy. Just look at the movement of vehicle delivery activities through the IKT Priok facilities and the Patimban Port. Moreover, access to the distribution of Tanjung Priok Port is often hit by congestion due to the soaring flow of containers from and to the port. These are various indicators that the economy is improving, even last year (2021) Indonesia’s investment target proclaimed by President Joko Widodo could be achieved. Therefore, we must all be optimistic that we can control this pandemic situation through strict procedures,” he explained.

Based on data from the Ministry of Investment / Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM), investment realization in 2021 totaled Rp 901.02 trillion. This realization exceeded the target given by President Jokowi of Rp 900 trillion.

“From the data from the Ministry of Investment/BKPM released in 2021, the transportation, warehousing and telecommunications sectors reached IDR 107.4 trillion,” he said.

Yukki is also optimistic that the industrial sector is currently on a recovery path as indicated by a number of macro indicators, including the improving purchasing managers index (PMI) of Indonesian manufacturing.
